Sport cups of USSR

There are three cups in front of you. These cups present objects of industrial design, gravitating towards the aesthetics of constructivism that characterize the Soviet era.

Two of them have a characteristic mark, or rather a trademark. Based on the decoding of the trademark, we can say that both cups were presumably manufactured at the Moscow Metal Art Engraving Factory between 1963 and 1973. One of the cups has a dedicatory engraving:

The winning team of the «Kazmetallurgstroy» trust for taking 1st place in the IV winter sports competition of the regional committee of the trade union of builders.

February-March 1979. Karaganda.

The third cup is not marked with the manufacturer’s mark. It only has the stamp OTK-12 – that is, the technical control department.

The history of technical control departments began when a large-scale mass production came into industrial life. According to Decree of the Council of the Ministers of USSR dated 13th of July 1962, the Technical Control Department (TCD) was an independent structural unit of the enterprise. Goods that passed the inspection were marked with a special stamp.

However, due to the dedicatory engraving we can safely conclude that the item was created no later than 1982.

Memorable prize for 1st place nationwide at the Xth Winter Spartakiad for schoolchildren of the region in 1982. Regional Board of Education Regional Council «Zhastar».

As a rule, Soviet sportspeople or teams received memorable prizes for winning friendly competitions or match meetings.
