Galvanoplastic sculptural composition «Jerusalem»

The Jerusalem souvenir is mounted on a square pedestal made of olive wood, covered with blue velvet fabric. The item was probably made no later than 1995. There are two inscriptions on the sculpture: Dawani and Zadok.

The first inscription is the author’s signature, and it was created by the sculptor himself together with the model.

      Dawani

Jamal Davani was born in 1952 in the city of Irbid, in the North of Jordan. The surname Daw(v)ani refers to Davan, one of the oldest villages in southern Iran, located near Kazerun. One of the famous natives of this village is Allame Jalaluddin Mohammad Davani Kazeruni Siddiqui, also known as Jalaluddin Davani, an outstanding Persian philosopher, a theologian, jurist and poet of the 15th century.

Jamal Davani moved with his family to Israel at an early age. Working as a sculptor, he turns to the history of Israel and embodies it in his works. Jamal Davani’s favorite materials in sculpture are bronze and silver. Jamal Davani’s exhibitions were held in Amman (Jordan), Jerusalem (Israel), Fujisawa (Japan).

The second mark Zadok is made by using a mechanical application method, the most common in industrial design and jewelry. In all likelihood, the mark was applied to the finished product by the manufacturer.

      Zadok

In the American directory Israel export-import and Business Directory for 2010, Zadok Arts LTD appears as one of the leading Israeli companies in the production of souvenirs that uses the electroforming method. The company is located in Jerusalem. Most of the items produced are dedicated to Judaic studies.

The first or last name “Tzadok” is characteristic of natives of Israel. The meaning of this name in Hebrew is “Righteous”. Presumably, Zadok was a high priestduring the reigns of kings David (ca. 1004-965 BC) and Solomon (ca. 965-930 BC).
